White with sugar?

Lots of serious coffee drinkers will call you mad for having your coffee white and/or with sugar, but depending on the coffee milk/cream and sugar can really bring out some flavour.

I used to have my coffee with 2 sugars and milk, not cream but that’s just personal taste, can’t stand cream, as I grew older that got reduced to one sugar and now since drinking a thousand cups of coffee at work I have it without sugar. I still drink half my coffees with milk as I love cappuccinos, I also have americano’s black.

It’s the same with tea, although there are some teas you can’t drink with milk, for example green teas, equally you can’t drink very strong roasted coffees with milk as there too acidic.

So if someone asks for white with sugar give them a break! Unless they add more then one sugar in which case that’s just criminal!

Hangover coffee.

Now in the delicate state I have chosen to put myself in I’m going to write about the best hangover coffee.

Now when people go for coffee for hangovers they usually go for strong and black. Well thats not always the best way to go.

Strong may seem like a good idea, extra caffeine and all, but actually the stronger the roast the less caffeine there happens to be. What you need is either a mild coffee or a coffee with a high percentage of robusta beans. Normally I would never recommend robusta but they do containt more caffeine then arabica.

And the whole black thing is your choice as it is always. For me drinking milk on an empty, hungover stomach would be a forever bad thing but it will help nuturlise the acid in your stomach making you feel a bit better.

So there you have it, either go mild or robusta!

Santo’s & Java

Now this coffee is not for the faint hearted. It’s a continental roast which although can be drunk anyway you pretty much want, is for me an cappuccino/latte coffee!

It has a lot of strength to it, in fact you can’t get much stronger and still be able to have milk as the coffee becomes much to acidic. However it still has that fantastic ‘kick’ which you need for a cappuccino.

So nice easy coffee to explain really, it’s a dark continental roast with a kick that’s suitable for having with a lot of milk and not losing the flavor.

A good all round coffee

Well Jason asked this question so I finally decided to answer!

A good all round coffee still depends on your tastes, when a new customer comes into my shop and asks for an every day coffee we usually recommend Pure Colombian, it is a strong, but not too strong medium coffee. Of course some people still find this too strong. It’s a good place to start as you can then either move up in strength or down.

A lot depends on how much milk you add, if yours is a muddy coffee (just a dash) you need a milder coffee, where as those who enjoy a lot of milk, for latte’s etc. need a much stronger coffee.

For you Jason I already gave you pico duarte and then keyna peaberry (which was slightly milder) If you still found that too strong I’d go for the Costa Rica, I’ve skipped the Pure Mocha as it’s made using the dry process, fair enough since the country has little water but it does not make for a good coffee!

Next time, Santo’s and Java!

Well about this…

Blogs are such horrible things aren’t they? There either hardly ever updated, or really boring - at 9am I ate some toast, it had cherry jam on it.

So what is the reason for blogs?

Well once in a while they are not foreign or about porn … but! Are rather funny, interesting or just worth five minutes of your time.

You never know, this blog may be worth your time, or it may not, all it will take is a second to find out.

Self confessed coffee snob…

I’ve never liked instant coffee, only ever drank it very occassionally, but since I started working at Whittard of Chelsea I’ve become a complete and utter coffee snob!

Now I don’t think this is a bad thing, in fact if somebody doesn’t drink real coffee, say for example someone of the oppisite sex, then I become slightly more disinterested.

Maybe because it’s so easy to drink real coffee, it takes 5min to make a coffee, instead of the 3 seconds were all used too!

My mission in life is to introduce people to real coffee, if your interested let me know, wether you want something normal to drink all the time, or the illusive blue mountain for the perfect gift, I now know it all!
